Kips Bay Designer Showhouse

For the 2016 Kips Bay Designer Show House, Element Design Group worked with designer Harry Heissmann to assemble this powder room. The inspiration for the room was the ‘Queen of Mälaren’ mosaic panel from Modernity Gallery in Stockholm. The blue leather panels from Dualoy seemed a great choice for a Powder Room and serve as a canvas for the mosaic panel.

The blue leather panels from Dualoy serve as a canvas for the mosaic panel. Instead of a crown molding, Ankasa fashioned a custom handmade border with embroidery to resemble the mosaic below. The Ann Sacks mosaic tile floor was selected because it was reminiscent braided hair to further relate to the panel. The vanity, vanity top and faucet as well as all the decorative hardware and toilet by Kohler added to the look. By deciding to mount the towel bars on the vanity doors the piece became really practical and custom in appearance.

As for the crowning ‘jewels’ in the room: Custom ‘Geranium leaf’ ceramic mirror and ‘Hadley’ lamps by Christopher Spitzmiller and a Murano glass ceiling fixture reminiscent of a petrified sunflower from L’Antiquaire in Westport. Special details were added, like the 1880’s dictionary stand for reading and a golden toad for kissing.
